ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND HERBS
The Paths to Wholeness web site helps people become more familiar with the system of Eastern medicine and healing. Dr. Andrew Weil is a leader in the integration of Western medicine and the exploding field of alternative medicine.
The American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM) is a not-for-profit medical society dedicated to educating physicians and other health care professionals on the latest findings and emerging procedures in preventive/nutritional medicine. ACAM's goals are to improve skills, knowledge and diagnostic procedures as they relate to complementary and alternative medicine; to support research; and to develop awareness of alternative methods of medical treatment. The Alternative Health News Online web site provides information on alternative as well as conventional medicine as it relates to various health issues, including hepatitis. The Healthfinder web site is quite impressive for a government site. It is simple in design and navigation and has a tremendous amount of information. There is a lot of good information on hepatitis C and non-Western medicine under the "Hot Topics" section. The non-Western medicine information includes links for general information, therapies, nutrition/lifestyle information, quackery/fraud, training/associations, and others. http:www.healthfinder.gov
Features Harvard Medical School's consumer health information. The "Disorders Index" has articles on hepatitis C. The "General Index" has good basic information on a wide variety of topics including acupuncture, when's the best time of day to take herbs, Qi Gong, the immune system, and pregnancy and Chinese herbs. The "Action Index" has a Chinese herbal medicine primer designed for Western healthcare providers. You may want to print it out and give it to your Western healthcare provider if he or she has concerns about other treatment options you are considering. In addition, the "Action Index" has information on Native American traditional medicine, Tibetan medicine resources, and a list of practitioners, among others. The mission of the Hepatitis C United Resource Exchange is to cultivate an international network promoting hepatitis C education.

The primary mission of O.A.S.I.S. is to provide low-cost, subsidized medical care, clinical research studies, and provision of and/or access to social and vocational rehabilitation services for medically marginalized former or current drug and alcohol users. This official homepage of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians offers a variety of resources on naturopathic medicine including a message board, library, and a naturopathic physician finder. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) conducts and supports basic and applied research and training and disseminates information on complementary and alternative medicine to practitioners and the public Hepatitis United You can leave your profile

** The incubation period of HCV infection before the onset of clinical symptoms ranges from 15 to 150 days. In acute infections, the most common symptoms are fatigue and jaundice; however, the majority of cases (between 60% and 70%), even those that develop chronic infection, are asymptomatic.

** In the United States, hepatitis C represents approximately 20 percent of cases of acute hepatitis. The mean incubation period to onset of symptoms is 7 weeks; the range is 3-20 weeks. However, long before onset of symptoms, markers of virus appear in the serum: HCV RNA is
detectable within 1-3 weeks of exposure. The probability that a single needle stick will result in disease is 3 to 5 chances in 1,000 for HIV, approximately 300 chances in 1,000 for HBV, {and approximately 20 to 50 chances in 1,000 for HCV.} http://www.who.int/vaccinesaccess/injection_
